Willkommen auf die Alps!
Well, what do you think? Pretty incredible, no? But let's start at the beginning, it's a very good place to start...
It just wouldn't be a Norton trip to the airport if someone wasn't running. My flight was at 11, so we planned to leave at 9 to get there with time. We skipped gaily out of the house at 9:41, and it takes at least 30 minutes to the airport from my house. And, actually, I was on time, but my parents had to run through the Atlanta airport and almost missed the plane, so the running was there, no fear.
We arrived, waited for my bag for over an hour and a half, took a 2 hour train ride to Interlaken (love trains) and started. We hiked for about an hour yesterday, saw the picture above, got rained on in the mountains, ran to catch a train we didn't have to run for (the paranoia got to Mom), and proceeded to town, only to get rained on again about 10 minutes from the hotel. At this point, I haven't slept in about 30+ hours, it's 9pm here, and I just want to shower and get to bed. So we ran through the rain. No big deal right? Hopping from awning to awning, we decided to wait out the rain in a restaurant and get desserts. So, just so you can really picture this in your head: a). we're wet, b). we're running (really really running), c). these Swiss people are openly staring, and d). my dad is carrying his backpack under his jacket, which now won't zip and Dad looks like a turtle. As we walk through the door, Mom, who's bringing up the rear, falls, yes, falls into me, as she trips through the doorway and down the little entry step. Know what she was pointing out to me? The horse steak offered on the menu... And the restaurant doesn't even have dessert. What restaurant doesn't offer dessert? So we left. (:
So, we did more hiking today (well, hiking is a loose term, i.e. we took the Children's Adventure Trail. No laughing matter, this trail was intense. I wouldn't have touched that thing as a child. And yes, I'm sore.), and it's just as lovely. Well, stunning and without equal, to be fair. I'm putting up pictures, but please know that this doesn't do it justice. I mean, you just have to be here (which we should all do. Together. Everyone.)
